The course provides preparation for the academic skills required for degree level study, delivering the opportunity to develop the questioning and analytical skills required for progression in your chosen humanities subject. After you have completed your Humanities Foundation Year, you can progress on to studying at degree level.**Start Dates**We offer a September and January entry point onto this course. (Applicant information for January 2022 entry can be found on the 2021/2022 pages.)The closing date for applications to the September 2022 entry point is the 15th January (unless otherwise stipulated) and the closing date for applications for the January 2023 entry point is the 20th December 2022. Please note that the January start point runs in a compressed time-frame (January to July) but without loss of teaching weeks or acceleration of teaching and content delivery. One day you could be analysing a variety of media forms, the next producing cultural artefacts, such as documentaries or podcasts. You’ll also have the opportunity to gain invaluable work experience within the creative and media industries through our work placements.The course provides you with the critical skills to analyse and contextualise a variety of media and cultural forms, including films, photography, advertisements, news and digital media. You’ll also have the opportunity to explore your own creativity in producing cultural artefacts, with opportunities ranging from documentary-making to social media development, and from photographic installations to magazine production.The media building provides students with access to Apple Mac computers, a lighting and photographic studio and sound recording facilities, together with support from media technicians, to ensure students can deliver work of the highest quality. Media, Communications and Creative Practice students can borrow equipment such as high-spec video cameras, sound recording equipment and cameras and support is available to present students' work at the end-of-course degree show.
