If you are interested in teaching Mathematics as a subject but also in increasing the wider awareness of how Mathematics is advancing our lives, then this course is for you. You will explore pure mathematics, applied mathematics and statistics, against the wider background of issues surrounding education.Over the three years of study at Keele, you will learn to evaluate key educational concepts, theories and issues of policy in a systematic way. You will learn about their applications to understand ways in which Mathematics can be learnt and taught. In your first year, you will study core material which could include calculus and algebra. In subsequent years you can begin to tailor your programme according to your own strengths and interests. You will have the opportunity to explore a range of specialisms which may include pure or applied mathematics, probability and modelling.Education topics include a wide range of areas, such as the sociology of Education, for example, how race, class and gender can impact on pupils’ educational outcomes. There are also opportunities to study such topics such as how children learn, the history of education and play in the early years.
