The programme is ideal for those who do not meet the entry requirements for direct entry onto an honours degree. Following successful completion (including any additional progression requirements) of the Foundation Year you can progress on to the first year of Geology.**Start Dates**We offer a September and January entry point onto this course. (Applicant information for January 2022 entry can be found on the 2021/2022 pages.) The closing date for applications to the September 2022 entry point is the 15th January (unless otherwise stipulated) and the closing date for applications for the January 2023 entry point is the 20th December 2022. Please note that the January start point runs in a compressed time-frame (January to July) but without loss of teaching weeks or acceleration of teaching and content delivery. This course covers a range of topics which may include the wider interdisciplinary elements such as geophysics and geochemistry.The Keele geology degree is broad-based and may examine the Earth, its structure, formation, composition, history, processes, hazards and materials. This course covers a range of topics which may include looking at rocks, minerals and fossils and geological processes. Beyond that, a range of optional modules allow you to tailor your degree towards your individual interests and/or career aspirations.You may investigate geological processes such as plate tectonics and explore geological resources such as oil, gas, metals and minerals. You also might have the opportunity to study broader subjects such as geoscience and society, forensic geoscience and Earth systems.On this course, we aim to focus particularly on applied research skills which will encourage you to collect, analyse and interpret different types of geological data, and to carry out your own research using specialist software and equipment.
