PGCE Secondary Geography with QTS
Our one-year Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) prepares you to teach the secondary school geography curriculum for the 11-16 age range.
Throughout the course youll explore different ways to teach geography, including enquiry learning, fieldwork, and using geographical information systems (GIS). You will question issues from how the school environment affects a students understanding of geography to who decides the geographical knowledge students learn.
At the start of your course, youll usually go on an overnight field trip to help you learn how to plan a trip. This opportunity will allow you to consider logistics, risk assessments, daytime and evening activities, and geographical skills.
On the course, youll experience a variety of sessions to help you learn how to teach geography and develop your subject knowledge.
Past speakers include people from exam boards, the Royal Meteorological Society, a local branch of the Geographical Association and Ordnance Survey (speaking on Geographical Information Systems).
This PGCE is available via University-led and School Direct routes.
