BSc (Hons) Chemistry with Placement Year

Watch our video of Dr Paul Smith, Senior Lecturer in Chemistry and Environmental Science, explaining the impact chemists can have on the world and why he loves the subject.

With our BSc (Hons) Chemistry degree, we blend hands-on laboratory study with classroom learning to ensure you graduate with a balanced understanding of the subject, from inorganic and organic chemistry, to physical and analytical chemistry.

Weve worked to shape our curriculum around industry needs and developments, so well equip you with the skills and strengths that employers want. While the units youll study provide a well-rounded understanding of the subject as a whole, youll also have the flexibility to focus on those areas that interest you most developing the knowledge, experience and skills youll need to fulfil your professional or academic ambitions. As such, we cover a wide range of specialist areas that underpin research into key global challenges, including materials chemistry, drug discovery, green and sustainable chemistry, catalysis, computational chemical modelling, spectroscopy, and synthetic chemistry.

Our chemistry degree also provides the option of spending an extra year expanding your horizons, either studying with one of our partner universities overseas, or working on a placement in industry. This may be subject to availability.

This course is also available with a foundation year.
