MChem (Hons) Chemistry

The MChem (Hons) Chemistry is an integrated four-year undergraduate masters degree that covers study areas like reactions and mechanisms, materials chemistry, drug discovery, computational chemistry and spectroscopy, chemical synthesis and physiochemical processes. The programme is a high-standard platform for a range of careers. It includes a research project, where you spend a year focusing on a major independent project that you design, carry out and present, alongside your other areas of study.Throughout our chemistry degree, you’ll develop the kind of practical skills vital for lab work, along with a balanced understanding of inorganic, organic, physical and analytical chemistry. You’ll also have the flexibility to pursue the specialisms you’re most passionate about – through your final project, but also within the units you study, helping you shape the knowledge, experience and skills required for the career you aspire to.**FEATURES AND BENEFITS:**- We have invested £1.8m in upgrading our synthetic chemistry laboratories and installing new analytical equipment.- Our teaching is supported by a range of technological innovations including videos, specialist software and simulations to help you to prepare for practicals in advance – building your confidence in using lab equipment and allowing you to practise from home.- You will gain experience in advanced synthetic chemistry skills and hands-on operation of high specification analytical instrumentation to provide you with the skills employers are looking for.- In your first year you will have access to our online homework system, which allows your lecturers to give you immediate, targeted feedback and hints to help you understand and practise key concepts.- Our diverse research activities directly inform our teaching. These focus on creating a sustainable and healthy future, including biosensors, drug discovery and the chemical monitoring of environmental change.
