The job of Marketing is to get and keep customers by determining and satisfying customer needs and wants in a diverse market. This is done by making sure the company has the right products and/or services and that these are correctly promoted, distributed and priced.

Marshall’s Bachelor of Business Administration (B.B.A.) in Marketing includes the process of planning and implementing the conception, pricing, promotion and delivery of the ideas, goods and services involved in exchanges between businesses and their customers. Job growth in the field of marketing is expected to grow by 23% from 2016 to 2026, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. For example, the median annual pay for a market research analyst in 2018 was $62,150.

Marketing majors will have the chance to get involved in practical, hands-on experiences, which will prepare them for a variety of careers in marketing and communications. Students in our Marketing bachelor’s degree program participate in annual events like the Business and Economics Research Symposium and the West Virginia Innovation and Business Model Competition. Past events have included the Design for Delight competition with celebrity guest judges Jennifer Garner and Chad Pennington.

Students in the Marketing bachelor’s program will have many opportunities to interact and learn from reputable alumni through programs like the Cohen Business Professionalism Speaker Series and the Dean’s Distinguished Speaker Series. Perhaps our most well-known alumnus, Brad D. Smith, former CEO of Intuit, has a history of connecting our business students with CEOs from Fortune 500 companies such as Nike, PayPal and Adobe, as well as Facebook and Intuit.

The American Marketing Association (AMA) is the largest marketing association in North America. It is a professional association for individuals and organizations involved in the practice, teaching and study of marketing worldwide. It is also the source that marketers turn to every day for information / resources, education / training and professional networking. Our college’s American Marketing Association student organization has guest speakers and activities that allow for additional professional interaction. Students will also participate in some of the activities of the Brad D. Smith Business Incubator in downtown Huntington.
