New Zealand Certificate in Tourism (Tourism and Travel) (Level 3)
At NMIT you will gain a broad experience of what a career in tourism and travel can offer. We have one of New Zealand's top tourist spots, the Abel Tasman, just down the road.
The region also has a wide variety of tourism businesses including boutique craft brewers, wine, local seafood, a strong creative arts community, and hosting many annual events and conferences. On this programme, you will take part in onsite visits to local tourism businesses to build your industry network and learn what the industry needs from its staff.
You will gain skills in customer service, guiding and teamwork and go on-site visits to tourism operators, the airport and hotels.
You will also gain knowledge of the major New Zealand tourism destinations, the relevant legislation to tourism and travel workplaces, and the structure and operations of New Zealand's tourism industry post-COVID so you can successfully find work in this exciting field.
A comment from a local tourism employer mentioned how well graduates were doing and that they "would like to continue to support the great programme you offer."
Our Tourism programmes are student-friendly, to suit diverse personal situations and learning styles. The focus of learning is to gain skills and knowledge for work in the industry, and you are encouraged to apply for jobs. If you are successful, you can be released to start working when the employer needs you, with help from the programme coordinator to have a plan in place to complete assessments in the workplace and online so you successfully complete your qualification. Talk to us about how we can meet your needs.
