Communication Arts - Theatre

The B.S./B.A. degree program offers students the tools and direction to enter the professional Theatre industry, graduate study in Theatre, or work in a related field. Students have the opportunity to explore the broad world of Theatre while discovering and developing their own areas of interest and emphasis, gaining hands-on experience in performance, design, technology, management, playwriting, and advanced academic studies. Students develop résumé and portfolio materials, learn to network with industry professionals, and are encouraged to work professionally through employment opportunities and internships. The rich array of professional quality theatre, musical theatre, and dance productions each year give students a chance to immediately apply what is learned in the classroom, and new works and outreach initiatives allow students to experiment with creating and producing their own work.

As you begin your degree program, you’ll become a part of the theatre department’sfirst-year initiative and Creative Habit Community. During this first year, you’llreceive an official introduction to theatre and world literature to set the stagefor your future theatrical studies. You’ll also be given opportunities to auditionand volunteer to help with the department’s exciting season of shows-from Shakespeare’stragedies to high-spirited and comedic musicals. As you progress further into theprogram, you’ll experience hands-on training related to performance and productionand learn more about theatre history as well as the art of directing and producing.Throughout your academic career, you’ll also have opportunities to audition for rolesor work on design management and/or technical theatre crews.
