BAgrSc (Hons) Agricultural Science

This programme enables students to comprehend social and economic agricultural and food developments in a global context by focussing on the functioning and operation of Irish farm-orientated systems.  There is a large emphasis on the placement module which provides students with the opportunity to apply the academic knowledge to specific work practices.  Students will learn about the application of aspects of environmental, chemical and biological sciences to the study of farmland and livestock in a sustainable practice.  They will apply scientific methods and techniques in the examination of the farmland environment and in the health and welfare of livestock, appropriate methods, and design programmes, for best agricultural practice assessment.

UCC also has a number of unique selling points regarding offering Agricultural Science – these include its accessible and central location in the heartland of the dairy industry, its expertise in food science, plant science and sustainability and its collaborative relationship with Teagasc, with particular strength being UCC’s proximity to Moorepark Teagasc Food Research Centre.

This course is offered by University College Cork in partnership with Teagasc which is Ireland’s national body providing integrated research, advisory and training services to the agriculture and food industry and rural communities. This will ensure students get a truly applied experience of applying scientific knowledge in a practical setting.
