MA Education (Social Justice)

The MA Education (Social Justice) pathway is designed for those who want to tackle the urgent issues that challenge education systems across the globe, including inequity, marginalisation, exclusion and displacement.

On the MA Education (Social Justice) pathway, you will engage with cutting-edge research and explore key sociological, philosophical and political debates pertaining to power, equity and citizenship, including: cosmopolitanism, globalisation, human rights, migration, displacement, racism, xenophobia, structural inequity, and alternative forms of education as a form of agency, activism and resistance.

The MA Education (Social Justice) pathway has close links with the research-active Department of Education and Social Justice and you can expect high quality teaching from leading experts in policy analysis, critical theory and impacting social change.

The MA Education (Social Justice) pathway attracts a diversity of students from a broad range of education-focused disciplinary backgrounds. These include those who are teachers, education leaders, policy makers, social workers, youth and community support workers, those working in NGOs and in the justice system, and graduates of social science programmes more broadly, who wish to pursue a career in social justice and make an impact in society.

Employability

The MA Education (Social Justice) programme has been specially developed to prepare you to work in a wide range of education-focused roles in the community, voluntary or public sectors where you can utilise your skills and knowledge for the central purpose of social justice work and making a positive impact upon society.

You may also decide to progress further onto a postgraduate research programme (including a PhD), or may wish to consider job opportunities in sectors requiring knowledge of education policy, inequality, and social justice more broadly.
