MRes Regenerative Medicine and Devices

Intro

Our Regenerative Medicine and Devices MRes provides the opportunity to develop your scientific and translational research skills within an evolving discipline where major clinical conditions are treated by pioneering implants, tissue engineering constructs, cell- and gene-therapy, and nanomedicines.

The Centre for Regenerative Medicine and Devices research focuses on pathological and traumatic conditions of significant socio-economic impact. This informs the development of pioneering treatments for neurodegenerative diseases and sensory dysfunctions, diabetes, wound healing, cardiovascular and musculoskeletal diseases. You will work alongside internationally recognised academics, postdoctoral and other postgraduate researchers.

Guided by experienced supervisors you will design and undertake a major research project. This will allow you to demonstrate your creativity and initiative while applying scientific theory and developing practical skills relevant to research, industry and hospitals. You will test the translational potential of your project on placement with one of the organisations in our collaborative network or another relevant stakeholder, which is also an opportunity to build your network of contacts.

Course structure

The Regenerative Medicine and Devices MRes is typically completed full-time in one year, but can be taken part-time over two years. The course is structured to include a significant research component which you will undertake throughout the course. In addition, supporting taught modules further enrich your learning.

You will further deepen your understanding of the wider research community and literature through our specialist journal clubs with seminars from expert speakers as well as more informal, student-led presentations. And you will develop your practical, lab-based skills using our specialist facilities and equipment, supported by our technical team.

To be awarded the MRes, you must obtain 180 M-level credits, 40 credits from taught and subject-specific modules and 140 credits through the completion of the research project.

Careers

The course intends to maximise both your personal and professional potential, and in particular provides a foundation for careers in research, industry, the public sector and academia.

On course completion, you will be equipped with practical research based training, plus the necessary transferable skills to prepare you for career progression.
