BSc (Hons) Physiology and Pharmacology

**Course overview**- If you have an interest in the human body and want to learn more about how the body functions to maintain a stable environment then our Physiology and Pharmacology programme is the ideal course for you.- This degree is the perfect route if you want a career in the pharmaceutical industry, as you’ll study the human body in both normal and altered states, including the development of disease processes. You’ll have the flexibility to choose between two final degree routes dependent on your chosen career.- This degree programme offers you the opportunity to study the two related disciplines of physiology and pharmacology. In the physiological aspects of the course, you will gain a firm understanding of the range of processes happening in the various tissues and organs of the human body, how these are altered in response to external and internal stimuli, and how these go wrong in disease states.- The pharmacology aspects will focus on how drugs act on the human body and how they can be used as medications to restore normal physiology. You’ll be provided with a comprehensive introduction to basic bioscience and develop essential laboratory and study skills.- You’ll also undertake advanced physiology and pharmacology learning where you will be introduced to altered human physiology in disease (pathophysiology) and begin to understand the actions of common drugs that are used to treat these states.**Why study with us**- Physiology and Pharmacology is ranked 1st in England for value-added (a measure of effective teaching) (Guardian University Guide 2021)- Physiology and Pharmacology is ranked 2nd in the UK with 97% of students satisfied with learning opportunities (National Student Survey 2020)- Physiology and Pharmacology is ranked 3rd in the UK with 99% of students in graduate-level work or further study after graduating (Complete University Guide 2021)
