BSc (Hons) Nutrition and Exercise Science
If you’re interested in the science behind nutrition, exercise and health, then this is the course for you.
Course overview
Our course will offer you an advanced understanding of exercise, nutrition, health and disease. You’ll have the opportunity to engage in ongoing research and to go on placement with our local partners. If you prefer, you can set up a placement of your choice, with the help of our designated Work Based Learning Unit.

All of our staff are research active, and encourage student participation in this, which offers you the opportunity to develop your research skills and CV. It also means what you learn in the classroom is at the cutting edge of the field.
We will also signpost you toward optional Level 2 and Level 3 gym instructor qualifications during your studies, which equip you to work in the field during your degree.
Many of our staff also has external links with partner associations such as the British Association of Cardiovascular Prevention and Rehabilitation, and local active ageing and cardiovascular rehabilitation groups, as well as ties with sporting clubs. All of this affords you the opportunity to go on placement, develop skills and build your CV, all the while developing contacts within the industry.
Assessment
Assessment is by coursework and examinations. Coursework can include practical or case study reports, essays or presentations, and may be based on collaborative/team working.
Job prospects
Career paths following graduation may include roles within Health Screening, Health Promotion, Weight Management, Exercise Rehabilitation, Exercise Prescription, Sports Nutrition and Development, and the food industry.
Diverse opportunities include but not are limited to: Health and Wellbeing Physiologist; Active Schools Coordinator; Active Aging Coordinator; Sports Nutrition Product Development; Nutrition Advisor; Sports Nutrition; Health and Wellbeing Advisor; postgraduate study in the area of Exercise Rehabilitation, Sports Nutrition, Dietetics, Cardiovascular Rehabilitation, MRes or PhD.
