Our teaching and research in Chemistry dates back to the 1840s, when we were a centre for colour chemistry, supporting the textile and dyeing industries in the area.

  • We cover the core areas of organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry, as well as giving you the chance to study modules in environmental science, a subject particularly relevant to today’s world.
  • You’ll be able to get a grounding in the fundamentals of chemistry while developing your logical reasoning and imaginative problem-solving skills, with a particular focus on environmental issues.
  • In our chemical sciences labs you’ll have the opportunity to learn using the kind of instruments used in industry. And with an optional work placement in the UK or abroad in Year 3, you’ll find everything in place to help you gear your study towards boosting your employability.
