MComp Computing with Placement Year

Businesses across the world are looking for computing graduates who know their stuff. We could help you show potential employers that you’re the person they need, with this integrated Master’s course. You’ll study how to design and build software that is robust, reliable and attractive to use, often co-operating with others as part of a development team. The course emphasis is on developing hands-on, practical skills in software development, as well as an understanding of the human and social contexts of software systems

The Computing MComp course builds on our successful Computing BSc(Hons) degree and is fully accredited by the British Computer Society (BCS). You’ll spend an extra year at the end of your studies to gain a Master’s level qualification, and an even deeper knowledge of your subject. The course features option modules, so you can select the topics that you want to focus on. Typical options include:

  • Software engineering
  • Cyber security
  • Information technology
  • Web development

We’ll also give you the chance to gain real-world experience while you’re here. You’ll be able to go on a year-long placement in the industry after your second year. Businesses are keen to employ graduates with work experience, so it could give you the edge when it comes to your career search.

In the first year of your course you’ll be studying alongside students doing our Computer Science and Software Engineering courses. They all share the same first year, but then move on to look at different areas.

So if you find in your first year of studies that one particular area interests you more than others, you can request to transfer between courses. By keeping things flexible, we make sure you have the chance to follow your interests.
