BA (Hons) Psychology and Criminology

This course allows you to combine studies of human behaviour, thought and emotions from many different psychological perspectives with a focus on crime and the criminal justice system. The course focuses upon major issues and methods of enquiry in current psychology, considering the applications of psychology to problems of modern life in work, education, physical and mental health. Criminology-specific modules allow you to consider perspectives from the Sociology of Deviance, Criminal Psychology, History of Crime and Criminal Law.You will have the opportunity to enhance your employability through volunteering opportunities and research placements, as well as through the course’s focus on analysing human behaviour and crime from multiple perspectives. Teaching methods include lectures, seminars, tutorials, practical or laboratory workshops, computer assisted learning, independent and group work. The course provides you with useful experience, especially if you are intending to work in a range of career areas in psychology, such as educational psychology, clinical psychology, teaching and research, or in criminology, such as policing, probation work, the prison service, the Home Office, the criminal courts and postgraduate studies. A combined knowledge of psychology and criminology will be particularly relevant to career paths in crime reduction teams, drug rehabilitation programmes, youth offender teams and victim care.**Subject to validation.**
