BA History of Art and English

Art and English use different languages to ask common questions:

During your three years you'll explore an incredible breadth of art - fiction, painting, poetry, sculpture, drama, architecture, graphics, photography, film and more

Combining these two subjects into one degree gives you a rich understanding of communication - visual, written and spoken - across centuries and cultures.

You'll study English language, literature and drama from Old English to the present day. We have one of the most diverse range of modules of any UK university so you can follow your existing passions and explore new topics.

You'll explore visual cultures across periods, media and societies. All the time you'll be questioning. Why that method? Why that subject? How did people react then? What does it mean now?

No existing knowledge of History of Art is needed.

Although studied separately you'll be able to choose modules that complement each other, allowing you to look at the same topic in different ways. For example:

Project work and a dissertation give further opportunities to draw the subjects together.
