BSc Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine

In Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine BSc you will learn how to expertly link knowledge of the molecular fundamentals of life to the human condition and use this knowledge in the development of modern medicines.

With this degree you will develop biomedical expertise alongside core biochemistry techniques. Biochemistry is the scientific basis for a majority of medical knowledge and advances in understanding, diagnosing and treating disease.

You will develop advanced skills in the lab with practical experience from year one and will be trained by scientists who are leaders in the fields of biochemistry and biology. We will help you graduate with the core skills needed to be successful in your future career, either as a laboratory scientist or in careers where your scientific training will be welcome such as data analyst, patent law or teaching. This is also a perfect degree prior to postgraduate medical training.

Through optional modules and research projects, you can tailor the course to focus on the specific areas of biochemistry and molecular medicine that interest you. Our core first year content gives you the option to refine your biochemistry degree path at the end of year one to Biochemistry BSc (C700) or Biochemistry and Genetics BSc (CC47).

BSc or MSci?

MSci degrees are undergraduate-level courses which last for four years and have an integrated master's qualification. They are the equivalent to a BSc plus a master's level qualification. The MSci provides additional intensive laboratory research and the opportunity for you to add in work experience to enhance your future career prospects.
