You’ll gain an understanding of the internal functions and structures of organisations as well as the contexts within which business operates. You’ll develop the analytical skills needed both to solve a range of management problems and to competently use a number of management software packages. You will also develop your individual skills of critical thinking, teamwork and leadership; be competent in analysing data and have the communication skills vital for translating good ideas into action. You will be challenged to find improved ways of doing things. This course helps you to develop skills essential for a career in modern business and management. Successful management depends on understanding the complete business system and the interactions of customers, suppliers and resources. Management develops the skills and the analytical approach in relation to business systems in a range of environments including: industrial, commercial, service and public sector. Students will gain an understanding of the internal functions and structures of organisations as well as the contexts within which business operates. One of the skills developed is the ability to assess project risk (financial, technical and commercial), take an overall systems view and to make decisions that optimise desired objectives. Management students also need to be able to communicate well. Business development plans need to be supported by engaging presentations to sell their ideas. Students will develop a wide range of skills: making presentations, report writing, working in teams and familiarity with modern information technology.
