Certificate School and Community Support Worker

UFV's School and Community Support Worker certificate prepares students to work as education assistants in schools or support workers in the community.

Students acquire the knowledge and skills required to support diverse students with a variety of learning needs under the direction of a classroom teacher. Education assistants promote and manage positive student behaviour, implement Individualized Education Plans, and assist with personal care.

Graduates are also prepared to assist adults and children with diverse needs in the community in vocational, residential, and recreational settings, as well as long-term care facilities. Community support workers emphasize quality of life, foster inclusion, and promote self-determination while assisting with life skill development and full participation in the community.

Students complete a 200-hour practicum in a school or community-based agency where they apply classroom learning to practice.

The 31-credit certificate can be completed in two semesters of full-time study or longer if taken part-time.
