MSci Sport and Exercise Nutrition

The Sport and Exercise Nutrition MSci is designed for students interested in pursuing a career in the application of nutrition and exercise in a range of contexts, from helping individuals to improve their health and wellbeing, to maximising human performance in sporting environments.

This course provides the unique opportunity to integrate your undergraduate and postgraduate education into a single four-year degree programme. This will prepare you for professional practice by drawing upon knowledge, skills and experience from diverse areas of science and bringing them together to form a cohesive discipline. The integrated nature of this course means you can benefit from applying for funding this undergraduate and postgraduate course through a student loan, should you apply for student finance.

Each year of the course has been designed to build your personal and professional development as you progress through your years of study. In the first three years, you will develop an understanding of three main areas of nutrition: global public health, sport and exercise nutrition, and nutrition science, providing you with a broad base of knowledge in preparation to develop advanced practitioner skills in sport and exercise nutrition in your final year.

A unique component of the MSci is the opportunity to undertake a 'real world' mini-project in the Community Engagement in Sport, Physical Activity and Nutrition module in the third year. This will give you the opportunity to design, apply and implement a live project to enhance either the health, wellbeing or sporting goals of a specific community. In the final year, you can choose to build on this experience in an extended independent project on a contemporary topic related to sport and exercise nutrition.

The course content is informed by industry to ensure you are equipped with skills desired by employers within the sports and exercise nutrition profession. The course is accredited by the Association of Nutrition (AfN), the recognised professional body for the regulation and registration of nutritionists. On successful completion of all required modules, graduates have the title of Associate Nutritionist of the AfN, which will allow you to work towards full registration status in your career.
