Updated on: Aug 10, 2023

Yes, as an international student, you are allowed to work during or after your studies in Ireland, subject to certain conditions.

During your studies:

  • If you are enrolled in a full-time degree program at a recognised institution, you can work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and full-time during the holidays.
  • If you are enrolled in a course of study that is less than 6 months in duration, you are not allowed to work.
  • If you are enrolled in a course of study that is less than 12 months in duration, you are allowed to work up to 10 hours per week during term time and full-time during the holidays.

After your studies:

  • If you have completed a degree program in Ireland, you can apply for a Stamp 1G visa, which allows you to stay in Ireland for up to 2 years to look for work.
  • If you find a job in Ireland that is related to your field of study and pays a salary of at least €30,000 per year, you can apply for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which allows you to work and live in Ireland for up to 2 years initially, and can be renewed for up to 3 years.
  • If you find a job that does not meet the criteria for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, you can apply for a General Employment Permit, which allows you to work and live in Ireland for up to 2 years initially, and can be renewed for up to 3 years.

Note that there are certain conditions and requirements that you must meet to be eligible to work in Ireland, and you may need to apply for a visa or permit depending on your circumstances. It is recommended that you check with the Irish immigration authorities for the most up-to-date information and advice.
