BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering Foundation Programme
The Foundation course provides a pathway to BEng and MEng degree courses in Mechanical and Aeronautical Engineering.
Who is it for?
If you wish to study Mechanical or Aeronautical BEng/MEng degrees at City, University of London, but do not satisfy the entry requirements, Foundation courses can be the first year of a four-year BEng, or a five-year MEng, degree.
Objectives
The overall aim of these programmes and their more specialised routes is to provide a wellrounded education and also specialised training for a professional career in the aeronautical, air transport and associated industries or the industries underpinned by the mechanical engineering disciplines, including energy engineering and automotive engineering. This will include the research, development, design, production, commissioning and management aspects of those industries.
The emphasis in the Foundation courses is on developing your study skills and ability in mathematics, physical sciences, engineering and computing.
Teaching and learning
As a Foundation course student, you will take most of your classes at Westminster Kingsway College. Some laboratory classes are taken at City, University of London. Both institutions emphasise tutorial support and study skills. There is some flexibility to change to a different engineering course after the foundation year, subject to the agreement of the course director concerned.
