BA Family Science and Human Development Major, Gerontology Concentration

Are you compassionate toward older adults and concerned about the challenges they encounter? Gerontology is a field of study that examines the social, cultural, psychological and physical changes associated with aging. Course topics include the health and psychological aspects of aging, fitness and the aging process, and death and bereavement in the family. With a background in Gerontology, you can pursue a career path in a rapidly expanding field that can be incorporated into a variety of rewarding professions, including but certainly not limited to counseling, finance, speech/hearing, nursing, fitness and law.

The concentration requirements for this program emphasize the study of the family. This interdisciplinary program is unique in that students take several service-learning courses and complete a part-time internship enabling them to work with older adults in a variety of community settings.
