MSc Applied Sport and Exercise Sciences (Strength and Conditioning)

Course Summary

Strength and conditioning is at the heart of all sports, by improving the fitness and function of the athletes. This course will develop skills and knowledge to allow you to have a sound knowledge base, that is applied into practice, to enhance performance.

You begin by developing the understanding of strength production and how these would be linked to the creation of training programmes. This knowledge is put into practical application by developing the skills and coaching ability with athlete groups. You finish your postgraduate degree with a period in the work place assisting relevant groups with performance enhancement and researching a topic that will hopefully give you the chance to contribute to the body of literature within strength and conditioning to inform future practices.

This knowledge, skills and application will then be put into practice via a work placement focusing upon strength and conditioning practices. By the end of this students will have followed a theory to applied to practice model, which would enhance their employment opportunities.

Additionally, a key focus of the course is researching within strength and conditioning. The research skill module will lead into a double credit project module, which will allow you explore deeply your project area and develop individual researching skills and practice.
