BA (Hons) Philosophy and Law (Including Foundation Year and Year Abroad)

Our five-year BA Philosophy and Law (including foundation year and year abroad), will be suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for the four-year version of this course and you want a programme that increases your subject knowledge as well as improves your academic skills in order to support your academic performance. This five-year course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further three years of study, plus a study abroad year. During your Year Zero, you study three academic subjects relevant to your chosen course as well as a compulsory academic skills module.Not just quiet contemplation – philosophy has great practical value. You study philosophy and law together in order to appreciate the relationships between them with a degree of critical awareness. Moral, political and legal philosophy have implications for law, and philosophers can learn from lawyers too in various ways. Our course offers plenty of opportunity to study, not only what the law is, but also what the law ought to be.You also have the opportunity to take part in a number of extracurricular activities to build on your credentials for future employment. Volunteer at our Law Clinic offering legal advice to real clients, participate in mooting competitions, test your skills in client interviewing competitions, join our law, human rights and bar societies and take advantage of networking opportunities with visiting law firms.You spend your third year studying abroad allowing you to experience other cultures and languages, to broaden your degree socially and academically, and to demonstrate to employers that you are mature, adaptable, and organised.
