BSc (Hons) Genetics

The field of genetics is central to the life sciences. Many of the major landmarks in biology relate to genetics: Darwin’s theory of evolution, discovery of the structure of DNA and the sequencing of the human genome have all contributed to changing our understanding of biology. Genetics is an important, exciting and wide-ranging field to study and the application of genetics in healthcare and research means the prospects for graduates have never been better. Your final year project allows you to contribute to this field, approaching unanswered scientific questions using state-of-the-art-techniques; popular topics have ranged from the genetics of cancer and regulation of the immune response, to population genetics and synthetic biology.Located in the School of Biological Sciences, we are one of the largest schools at the University. Two-thirds of our research is rated "world-leading" or "internationally excellent" (REF 2014).
