BS Accounting

University of La Verne’s B.S. in Accounting program equips undergraduate students with the analytical and practical skills required for careers in accounting and business. As one of the most comprehensive undergraduate accounting programs in Southern California, students at La Verne prepare for a wide range of accounting related career paths, from accountant to internal auditors .

This program is offered through the College of Business and Public Management and prepares students for all major accounting licensure exams. Students in this program have access to our dedicated faculty, state-of-the-art facilities, and numerous career building opportunities, all designed to empower them in their future careers.

La Verne also offers an accelerated B.A. in Accounting program which can be completed at our regional campuses.

The accounting program is designed to promote a thorough understanding of advanced concepts contained within accounting. Courses focus on the practical l and theoretical foundations of accounting as well as the analytical frameworks that guide more advanced topics.

The curriculum for the undergraduate B.S. in Accounting is comprised of 82 total credit hours. Of these, 30 hours are made up of courses focused on foundational concepts of accounting, economics, and business. An additional 52 credits are focused on advanced courses in accounting, taxation, and business.

Additionally, accounting students have the opportunity to complete a concentration through the Business Administration program, choosing from business management, information technology, international business, or marketing.

By graduation, students will be fully qualified to sit for all accounting exams, including the CPA (certified public accountant), CMA (certified management accountant), and CIA (certified internal auditor) exams. Before taking the CPA exam, students must complete an additional 22 credits of academic coursework at any accredited institution.

La Verne provides opportunities for students to develop their professional skills through volunteer work and experiential learning in the community. Our accounting students are given the opportunity to volunteer through the VITA program, helping people in the La Verne area fill out their tax forms each year. In addition, students are encouraged to intern for a local accounting firm.

Students also have the option to join our active student group, ULV Society of Accountants, which focuses on promoting the reputation of the La Verne accounting program through networking opportunities, connections with leaders in the business industry, and by providing a scholarly support system for business students.

The undergraduate accounting major prepares students for future study at the master’s or doctoral level through rigorous coursework and hands-on learning. Accounting students are able to apply for La Verne’s M.S. in Accounting and earn their master’s degree in only one additional year of full-time study. Completion of this master’s program will fulfill the 22 credit requirement needed to sit for the CPA exam.
