MAT Spanish Specialization

The Spanish Specialization of the Master of Arts in Teaching (MAT) degree is designed for candidates who hold a bachelor’s degree in Spanish and who seek to obtain a K-12 teaching license in Spanish. Graduates will possess the knowledge and skills necessary to work in professional and leadership positions within public and private school settings. Upon completion of the program, candidates will be prepared to become certified Spanish teachers in North Carolina.

The degree is comprised of 33 credit hours. The program consists of a core of professional studies that develops the instructional decision-making of K-12 teachers and a specialization (Spanish) designed to enhance knowledge of Spanish language and culture and promote inquiry into areas that will enhance instructional practices. The program supports the Watson College of Education’s conceptual framework of developing knowledgeable and proficient education professionals dedicated to improving schools and society.
