About the University

York St John University is located in the medieval city of York in the north of England.

The university offers over 100 degree course options at both undergraduate and foundation level. There is a also a range of postgraduate courses at the York Business School.

The university ranks 83rd in the UK in the Times and Sunday Times University Rankings 2021 and holds a TEF Bronze Award.

Campus Life

All accommodation is located in the centre of York City Centre, less than a mile from campus. A range of rooms, with en-suite and shared facility options. There are also flats, studios and houses. 

The university sits on a eleven-acre site in the centre of the city. Recent investment of over £100 million has developed the campus into a vibrant and supportive environment for students. Facilities include the Fountains Learning Centre, which houses the library, and The Foss Building, which is home to a sports hall, physiology laboratory, a biometrics laboratory, fitness suite and teaching rooms.

There is also a dance studio, drama studio, music rooms, TV and Film production facilities and studios on campus too.


Student life

The university's Students' Union manages a huge range of societies and sports clubs. The York St John University Rowing Club was founded after the original college in 1852. There is also a established football club, cricket club, hockey club and badminton club.

York itself is a stunning medieval city with a vibrant city life. A range of independent shops, cafes, restaurants and bars are within easy reach of campus.
