This programme gives students the opportunity to learn how to design, build, test, and fly an aircraft. 

As a Master’s in Engineering, this course will offer you a greater depth and breadth of specialist knowledge and skills to enter the industry. Modules include Advanced Aerodynamics, Flight Handling Qualities, and Advanced Aerostructures.

2. Avionic Systems with Year in Industry

Avionic Systems with a Year in Industry is a unique and skilled course offered at few universities internationally.

Students will learn and explore the electronics behind aviation, known as avionics. Avionics in most aircraft are updated several times within the aircraft’s lifetime, making this one of the most important sectors in the industry.

This programme also allows students the opportunity to learn to fly and work towards a National Private Pilot’s Licence or full Joint Aviation Authorities/Private Pilot Licence. This training takes place at the nearby Liverpool John Lennon Airport and can be fitted into your university timetable.

3. Financial Computing

Financial Computing is taught in conjunction with the Management School, blending finance, economics and computing. This is a dynamic course with excellent career opportunities for graduates in a range of professions, including the financial services sector.

Housed in a state-of-the-art grade II listed building, students are taught in PC and Mac laboratories and are encouraged to use creativity and innovation within a stimulating environment.

Modules include Principles of Microeconomics, Computer-based Trading in Financial Markets, Securities Markets, Software Engineering, and Business in the Global Economy.

4. Marine Biology with Oceanography

This three year programme will allow you to explore marine biology and ocean sciences in a Institute of Marine Engineering, Science and Technology accredited course. 

With a strong emphasis on marine sustainability, ecosystem management, marine biogeochemistry and the climate system, this is a diverse and fascinating field of study.

Modules include Ecology and Conservation, Environmental Chemistry, Oceanography, Plankton and Climate, and Science Communication.

5. Mathematical Physics

A highly prized four-year Masters in Mathematics degree, Mathematical Physics also offers a year abroad option, where students can expand their academic and cultural experience.

6. Mathematics with Ocean and Climate Sciences

An exciting course in an emerging discipline, Mathematics with Ocean and Climate Sciences will provide students with the tools to work on predicting climate and climate change.

This bachelor’s degree will explore how the ocean and atmosphere operate in the climate system, offering a strong grounding in mathematics. Students will also have the opportunity to work in the internationally renowned National Oceanography Centre in Liverpool, where they will learn skills for careers in fields such as computer modelling in oceanography, meteorology or environmental monitoring.

7. Mechatronics and Robotic Systems

This Masters in Engineering focuses on one of the most exciting fields of STEM research at the moment. It has more breadth than the Bachelor’s course and even has a year abroad option!

The course has excellent graduate prospects too, with 96% of leavers employed or in further study six months after graduation. It explores topics such as advanced system modelling and control and students partake in an individual final year project as well as a major group project in the third year.

8. Tropical Disease Biology

This course will interest anyone looking to go into the world of science and medicine in the future. It explores the biology of infectious disease both in a global context, with an emphasis on the tropics.

Students will spend their third year based at the prestigious Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine which was founded in 1898. Modules will cover topics such as parasitic protozoa, parasitology, chemotherapy, and global health.
