My name is Venkat Jeevan Arumulla, and I am from Chennai, India. I hold a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science Engineering and am currently pursuing my Master’s in Computer Science at the University of Dayton, USA. I have experience working as a Social Media lead during my undergrad, where I created and managed content for various platforms. My interests include photography and exploring new places, which allow me to capture unique perspectives and connect with people from different backgrounds.
Why did you decide to study abroad?

I decided to study abroad to gain global exposure in my field, experience a different education system, and develop skills that go beyond academics, such as cultural adaptability and networking.
Studying in the USA also gives me access to cutting-edge research, technology, and diverse opportunities that can help me grow both personally and professionally.
What were your concerns about studying abroad?
One of my biggest concerns about studying abroad was being away from my family for a long time. I knew I would miss them and everything familiar to me. It was also the first time I was travelling outside India, so I didn’t know anyone here and everything felt completely new.
Financially, I was used to thinking in rupees, so adjusting to expenses in dollars felt overwhelming at first. And of course, coming to the United States meant experiencing a completely different culture and meeting people from all over the world, which was exciting but also a little intimidating in the beginning.
How did you come across Edvoy, and how did it help you? Would you recommend it to other students?
I first heard about Edvoy from one of my seniors, but honestly, I didn’t believe it at first because they provide their services for free. I had many doubts about whether I could trust it or not.

However, after a few interactions with my counsellor, Mrs. Shaguptha Begum, I felt confident and started my application. She guided me through the entire process — from start to finish — and helped me secure admission to the university I wanted. Now, it’s been a year since I came to the United States, and I still can’t believe such high-quality guidance came at no cost.
I’ve been recommending Edvoy to my friends, and two of them are already on their way to study abroad through Edvoy.

What reasons led you to choose MCS Computer Science at the University of Dayton?
I chose the MCS in Computer Science at the University of Dayton because I had the opportunity to go through some research papers published by the professors here, and their work truly inspired me.
The program also offers all the key courses that will help shape my future career, such as Data Structures, Algorithm Design, and Artificial Intelligence.
How is life as an international student in the US?

Life as an international student in the US has been an incredible learning experience. We have student communities from all over the world, and there’s a strong network and support system among us.
Recently, our university hosted an International Festival, where all the student communities came together to celebrate our cultures. I’m also working on campus as a Social Media Manager and a Student Ambassador for international students, which gives me the chance to connect with and support others.
Every day brings new challenges, but this journey in the United States is teaching me real-life skills, resilience, and the confidence to face anything in the future.
What are your plans after graduation?
Before graduation, I aim to secure an internship to gain hands-on industry experience. Using that knowledge and exposure, my goal is to land a software development role with a reputable company after graduation.
Any advice or tips for other students who want to study abroad?
Be ready to face everything — both challenges and opportunities. As an international student, you’ll meet people from all over the world, build strong networks, and experience cultural exchanges through events like international festivals.
Take on-campus roles to grow professionally and personally. Most importantly, remember that each challenge you overcome will prepare you for the future and teach you valuable life skills.
Anything else you’d like to add or highlight?
Studying abroad has been one of the most transformative experiences of my life.
From leaving my family and stepping into an entirely new environment for the first time, to adapting to different cultures, currencies, and ways of life, every moment has taught me resilience.
The University of Dayton has been a perfect choice for me, with supportive faculty, enriching courses like data structures, algorithm design, and AI, and vibrant student communities from around the world.
My roles as a social media manager and student ambassador have given me real-world skills and a platform to connect with others. Every day brings new challenges, but also new opportunities, preparing me for my goal of securing an internship and then a software job.
My biggest advice to future students is: be ready to face everything — this journey will shape you in ways you can’t imagine.
