What should I prepare if I want to get a scholarship abroad?

Updated on Aug 23, 2024

Edvoy can guide you on scholarships, but we don't provide them directly.
And just a heads-up, scholarships typically won't cover your living expenses.

To increase your chances of securing a scholarship abroad, follow these steps:

  • Explore scholarships, and understand their requirements, eligibility criteria and deadlines.
  • Strive for excellence in your studies and maintain a high GPA.
  • Prepare and take required standardised tests like TOEFL, IELTS, SAT, GRE or GMAT.
  • Request letters from professors, teachers or mentors who can attest to your abilities and achievements.
  • Write a persuasive statement of purpose or essay highlighting your goals, motivations, experiences and how the scholarship will aid your aspirations.
  • Engage in extracurricular activities, leadership roles, community service or research projects to demonstrate your well-roundedness and initiative.
  • Showcase your academic achievements, work experience, internships, research involvement and relevant skills.
  • Gather necessary financial documents like bank statements or income certificates.
  • Ensure you meet language proficiency requirements by taking language proficiency exams and achieving the necessary scores.
  • Practise common interview questions to effectively communicate your strengths, experiences and motivations.

Stay organised, plan ahead and present a strong application that demonstrates your qualifications, achievements and dedication to the scholarship opportunity.
