Founded in 1884, Bangor University has an established tradition of academic excellence and a concentration on the well-being and experiences of students.
Bangor is also a recognised research institution which is ranked by the Research Excellence Framework with more than three-quarters of its work being either world-leading or outstanding globally. This forms part of a distinctive learning experience with over 400 programmes on offer to students.
The University boasts an 81% overall satisfaction rate – far above the UK average of 76% because the University creates a welcoming environment for all, with regular events and the celebration of all faiths.

The International Student Support Office runs a social programme that includes free events as well as trips around the local area and to specific destinations. It also organises a One World Gala concert every year to celebrate the many nationalities of students.
The Campus Life programme is committed to supporting interaction between students to foster a close residential community. Campus Life runs events, especially for students living in University halls of residence.
There are over 150 clubs and societies to choose from in Bangor. Academi is Bangor’s student club.
Bangor University provides on-campus accommodation to students. The housing was rated 3rd for Halls and Accommodation at the WhatUni Student Choice Awards 2023. The accommodation is self-catered, with private bathrooms, and shared kitchen facilities.
All international students with an offer to enrol on a September course are guaranteed a room in Bangor University halls. All residence halls include wi-fi and wired internet access, and a gym membership.
There are two accommodation villages, Ffriddoedd and St Mary's, within walking distance of the main University buildings and the city centre.

Sports
The Students' Union has over 50 sports teams and clubs which you can join for free. On-campus sports facilities include two main sports halls, well-equipped gyms, a gymnastics hall, and more. Outdoor facilities include grass pitches for football, rugby and American football, a shared athletics track and many more.
Cafeteria
There are also two bars and a cafe run by the student union. The Pontio Centre is a social hub for students.
Campuses
The Gwynedd campus is located in a scenic area near the Snowdonia National Park, providing a picturesque environment. This location gives access to many outdoor activities like hiking, climbing, and water sports. The campus has many historical buildings with modern facilities. The Adventure Parc Snowdonia, with the fastest zip line in the world, is not too far. The university buildings, accommodation and the city centre are all within walking distance.
Bangor is a compact city on the North Wales coast and is easy to reach from any part of the UK. Manchester Airport is only two hours and London is less than four hours away by train. The nearest bus stops are Belle Vue Hotel, Upper Bangor, and Bangor Uchaf, all within 500 metres from the campus.
Rock, pop and R&B music lovers can see their favourite bands perform in Manchester and Liverpool. Football lovers can attend Liverpool and Manchester United matches on weekends.

Bangor University is one of the top universities in Wales and has maintained a reputation for academic excellence and having stunning views.
The undergraduate requirements for Bangor University are an IELTS score of 5.5, but if international students have an IELTS of 5.0 (with no component below 4.5), they are offered a six week pre-sessional English course immediately preceding their entry to the IYZ (international year zero).
The International Student Support Office provides advice, support and students can get to know each other during the welcome week in September.
International students have the opportunity to benefit from many discounts. The Vice-Chancellor Scholarship offers £10,000 to international students who show academic achievement and success in professional, social and extracurricular contexts.
Another available scholarship is the merit-based Deans scholarship, which is awarded up to the value of £6,000 to students who have secured an A Grade/First-class average or equivalent in their qualifying exams.
Bangor University has also designed an international scholarship that awards up to the value of £4,000 to support students with living costs and tuition fees.
