Highlights
Colorado Mesa University is a public higher education establishment located in Grand Junction. The institution has degree programs for undergraduate, master's, associate and certificate levels. In addition, Colorado Mesa offers qualifications in academic and technical work-related fields.
Currently, around 11,000 students attend the university. Many enrol on full-time courses, while others use the establishment's online or part-time courses to balance work and family life. Since its opening in 1925, Colorado Mesa has served the local community by offering further education opportunities. But today, it has expanded and around 14% of the student intake comes from outside of Colorado.
For instance, the site has a performing arts centre, a Business and Education building and a sports centre. Many student-led organisations, such as the Criterion campus newspaper and KMSA 91.3FM radio station, are in the University Centre.
Around 75% of students live off campus whilst studying at Colorado Mesa. However, the institution offers a range of accommodation options for those wanting to stay on campus. There are eight halls of residence that students can apply for. These range from shared rooms and facilities to private suite rooms. Also for second years and above, students can live in shared apartments off campus.
Various works have taken place on the Colorado Mesa campus in recent years to improve the institution's facilities. Today, the campus site has a library with resources for different fields and courses.
Many clubs are started by the students at Colorado Mesa. Therefore, students can join a variety of diverse organisations and events. Over 80 clubs are available to join. These include a Cinema Club, esports, Painting Club, Percussion and many more.
Also, the university has a high-achieving sports presence in the region. 28 sports teams compete in the NCAA Division II and Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. The university has also won over 90 titles in local and regional leagues.
Campuses
Colorado Mesa University is near the Colorado mountains and canyons. As a result, Grand Junction has some of the best recreational and outdoor activities in the US. Hiking, climbing, biking and mountaineering are all available.
But students can also find slower-paced activities nearby. In Grand Junction, there are various cultural and art centres. Art on the Corner, the Museum of Western Colorado, and the Colorado Mountain Wine Festival are just some sites and activities to explore.
For a larger city experience, students can travel to Denver - a four-hour drive from campus. Alternatively, Salt Lake City is slightly further, located four and a half hours to the north.
FAQs
Students can quickly and easily check if they are eligible for a scholarship at Colorado Mesa University. The university's website has a free-to-use Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) tool. Here you can see if you qualify for financial aid. In addition, the university has various scholarships for freshmen, transfer students, legacy students and first-generation students. Many external scholarship options are also on offer through local and national organisations.
