Highlights
Class sizes are small at NMSU, with courses delivered in well-equipped classrooms catering to business, education, science and more disciplines. The Owens Library is the central source of information on campus, and the J.W Jones Student Union offers food options, a bookstore, student offices, lounges, a game room, and meeting spaces for all ‘bearcats’. The Robert and Virginia Foster Fitness Center is used by students who want to benefit from its fitness equipment, exercise classes, swimming pool, indoor track, and basketball courts.
Football games and other outdoor events are held at the Bearcat Stadium or the Carl and Cheryl Hughes Fieldhouse.
A meal plan is available for students living on campus, and most students regularly report feeling satisfied with the social hub of the campus. Sports are a big part of University life, whether as a spectator or participant, with the Bearcats athletics team playing regularly. Students also have the chance to become members of Greek Life to connect with other students and volunteer for more than 30,000 hours each academic year. Northwest Homecoming is a campus tradition that comprises entertainment, athletic activities and more fun events happening throughout the week in October. More events take place at the University throughout the year, from the invitation to listen to academic speakers to concert performances.
Students have the option to live on campus in halls of residence that are designed to make them feel at home. Living on campus has been proven to improve academic performance, and NMSU was named Safest College Campus in Missouri by Your Local Security. The Living Learning Community option available at the University allows you to live with students with similar interests to make friends and enjoy a comfortable living experience easily. These facilities offer a comfortable living environment and amenities like study lounges, laundry, and common areas.
Missouri is known for having the tallest manufactured monument in the USA, the Gateway Arch, in addition to its many parks, frequent barbecues and management jobs available in the area. Safewise ranked the city of Maryville, where the University is located, among the "Safest College Towns" for three consecutive years so students can feel at ease studying and working here. Famous author Dale Carnegie lived in Maryville, which is today a densely populated student area with many working professionals contributing to the local economy.
Employability
The Student Success Center focuses on transitioning, advising, supporting, and connecting students to maximise their potential. Students can also get help with CV writing, cover letter reviews and refining interview techniques before graduation. Several fields are available to graduates, from business to sciences and more.
