MA Community Music
The Master of Arts in Community Music is a one year, full-time postgraduate programme. It offers a comprehensive grounding in the skills and knowledge needed to function as a successful community musician in a range of contexts. The course is aimed at musicians who want to extend or develop the abilities needed to facilitate the expressive work of others and work effectively with a wide range of people in diverse settings. Students attain practical perspectives and hands-on experiences in the emerging field of Community Music in conjunction with developing the skills required to realise projects from their inception to their final execution. The course includes: new music skills, groupwork, fundraising, evaluation, project development and entrepreneurism. The course considers and addresses the growing interest in Community Music throughout the world.
Objectives:
- To equip students with a professional qualification in Community Music
- To develop workshop skills, practical management and all other skills necessary for this work
- To add to the academic canon of community music writing
- To consider and be part of the development of community music in Ireland
- To promote access to excellent participatory music making
