MPhys Theoretical Physics

If you want to study fundamental physics and its underlying mathematical principles, this course is for you.

You’ll explore the most recent theoretical advances in atomic, condensed-state, nuclear and particle physics. In your final year, you’ll join our teams and research fundamental questions, such as:

  • What is the origin of the masses of the known elementary particles?
  • What is the quantum theory of gravitation?
  • How did an asymmetry between matter and antimatter develop in the early universe?
  • How can we test these ideas at experiments, such as the Large Hadron Collider, or the Planck Satellite?

In your integrated Masters year you will develop advanced physical skills by working with one of the research groups in our Department.

You’ll be part of a close community – our lively Physics Society arranges regular social events. Our building is a real hub of activity. Outside the classroom, you can study or catch up with your friends in our popular student spaces.
