Student Spotlight: Soaring beyond borders, from Bengaluru to Cranfield
Welcome to Student Spotlight where we celebrate inspiring success stories of students from across the world. This one features Aakash Jayaraj, who took the leap and travelled 8000 km from Bengaluru to Cranfield, to pursue his academic dream. Take a look at his journey!

My name is Aakash, and I grew up in Bangalore, Karnataka, though my native place is Trichy, Tamil Nadu. I pursued my bachelor’s degree in Aeronautical Engineering in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu. Currently, I am studying for my master’s degree in Thermal Power and Propulsion (Aerospace Propulsion) at Cranfield University in the UK.

Why did you decide to study abroad?

I chose to study abroad because the exposure and skill sets available for freshers or students in the aerospace field in India are not as extensive as those offered at reputed universities abroad. Pursuing aerospace studies at a globally recognised institution provides better opportunities and learning experiences, which motivated me to make this decision.

What challenges did you face while planning for your studies abroad?

The biggest challenge was determining how to choose the right university. With thousands of universities worldwide, it was difficult to identify what makes a particular institution stand out and why it would be the best fit for my goals.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My day usually starts with preparing breakfast and packing lunch before catching a bus to the university. Once I arrive, I grab a cup of coffee and attend my classes. Afterwards, I either visit the library or head straight home. Evenings are spent studying, followed by dinner and getting ready for bed.

What has been your most memorable experience in this journey?

Joining Cranfield University has been one of the most memorable experiences of my life. The university exceeded my expectations, and I realised just how good it is after becoming a part of it.
