Can I work during or after my studies in Ireland?
Updated on Aug 10, 2023Yes, as an international student, you are allowed to work during or after your studies in Ireland, subject to certain conditions.
During your studies:
- If you are enrolled in a full-time degree program at a recognised institution, you can work up to 20 hours per week during term time, and full-time during the holidays.
- If you are enrolled in a course of study that is less than 6 months in duration, you are not allowed to work.
- If you are enrolled in a course of study that is less than 12 months in duration, you are allowed to work up to 10 hours per week during term time and full-time during the holidays.
After your studies:
- If you have completed a degree program in Ireland, you can apply for a Stamp 1G visa, which allows you to stay in Ireland for up to 2 years to look for work.
- If you find a job in Ireland that is related to your field of study and pays a salary of at least €30,000 per year, you can apply for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, which allows you to work and live in Ireland for up to 2 years initially, and can be renewed for up to 3 years.
- If you find a job that does not meet the criteria for a Critical Skills Employment Permit, you can apply for a General Employment Permit, which allows you to work and live in Ireland for up to 2 years initially, and can be renewed for up to 3 years.
