Highlights
Capilano has a collaborative outlook, which builds a sense of belonging so they can achieve their potential. As a result, the campus life at Capilano is high quality and a trusting and healthy community exists on campus. Students have plenty of opportunities to socialise and build skills outside of classes. The university supports students with volunteering activities and work opportunities.
But many extracurricular activities are available at Capilano too. The student union is active in offering organised events and low-cost trips and services. Also, students can apply to join one of the many sports, cultural, political or social clubs.
Currently, Capilano University has many resources spread across four campuses in Vancouver. The main campus is just North of downtown Vancouver and has halls of residence and many of the university’s key buildings and resources are located here. On-site, Capilano has the CapU library where students can access books, ebooks, computing resources, databases and academic references. In addition, the university has several study areas for quiet individual learning or group study.
Further facilities include a fitness and health centre. Here students can use the indoor gym, basketball courts, soccer resources and weight room. At the BlueShore Financial Centre for the Performing Arts, students can also view live music, drama and cultural events year-round.
Capilano has three halls of residence available on campus, Grouse Hall, Cypress Hall and Seymour Hall. Rooms on campus come with basic facilities, such as a bathroom, study area, WIFI, bed and desk. But students can also get catered options at the residence dining hall. This is available for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
Alternatively, the student union has a housing registry, where students can find off-campus accommodation. The registry has safe and secure housing listed, and students can contact their landlords or hosts. Options on the housing registry include private apartments, shared houses and host families.
The Capilano main campus is a 30-minute drive from downtown Vancouver. It is surrounded by forests and mountains, which provide students with plenty of nearby outdoor activities. Lynn Canyon Park, Deep Cove, Lonsdale Quay and Grouse Mountain are just some of the nearby areas of natural beauty. Here students can take up hiking, biking, watersports and skiing and snowboarding in the winter months.
But, for a more leisurely experience, students can head to the many local restaurants and coffee houses near the main campus. Also, the Quay Market and Food Hall and Shipyards Night Market are open regularly so students can sample some of Vancouver’s local produce and food.
