De Montfort University is based in Leicester and has its origins in the Leicester School of Art, which was established in 1870. Over the years it merged with other colleges and by the late 1960s it was the City of Leicester Polytechnic. In 1992 it became De Montfort University and today it has around 30,000 students including international students from more than 130 countries.

It is ranked in the top 800 global universities in the Times Higher Education rankings. It is also in the top 120 UK universities by the Complete University Guide, The Guardian and The Times/Sunday Times. In the Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings it was rated 50th in the world for sustainability.

The average salaries for its international graduates are £27,100 for undergraduates and £38,760 for postgraduates.
