Massey University was created in 1927 when the agricultural colleges of Victoria University College and Auckland University College were merged. Massey Agricultural College was named after former New Zealand Prime Minister William Fergusson Massey. In 1963 it merged with Palmerston North University College to become Massey University.

It has campuses in Palmerston North, Albany, and Wellington and has over 30,000 students, including over 5,000 international students from 100 countries.
