The University of Alabama, Birmingham, was established in 1969. It is a public research University offering 140 programs in 12 academic divisions and is known for internationally recognized research.
The student body is diverse, with approximately 1,084 international students from more than 110 countries enrolled at the University annually.
The UAB Hospital is a world-renowned medical facility offering patient care, research, and teaching services. Many students are attracted to its size as it is one of the largest academic medical centers in the United States. The UAB Comprehensive Cancer Center is a world-class research and treatment facility dedicated to fighting cancer through research, education, and patient care.
There are various on-campus accommodation options at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, including traditional residence halls offering an archetypal student experience. Blazer Hall and Camp Hall provide double occupancy rooms and shared community bathrooms. Blount Hall is a suite-style residence hall that offers four-bedroom suites with shared bathrooms and a common living area. The Heights offers one and two-bedroom apartments with a full kitchen, living area and private bathroom.
There is also a range of off-campus housing options near the University comprising houses, apartments and townhouses. Some of the scholarships offered by UAB cover living costs to support students.
The University of Alabama, Birmingham's facilities are comprehensive and cover a range of amenities. The Mervyn H. Sterne Library is one of the largest academic libraries in Alabama, so students are empowered with a range of books, resources and multimedia materials.
Campus Green is an ample space where students can relax or study together. It partially gets its name from the 4,400+ trees surrounding the area. In the warmer weather, students gather for outdoor events. Students are significantly involved in student organizations on campus, with over 380 student clubs to choose from to find your tribe. The campus has won awards for championing diversity, and there are many traditions to have fun with, from the international festival to blazer splash and beyond. The city of Birmingham, USA, is nearby too.
The Bartow Arena is the University's indoor sports arena, used for basketball and volleyball games and other events. Regions Field is home to the Birmingham Barons, a minor league baseball team; a baseball stadium situated near campus.
Campuses
Condé Nast Traveler named Birmingham, Alabama, one of 22 places to visit in 2022. The area is rich in civil rights history, so students can visit the Birmingham Civil Rights Institute or a nearby museum to explore further.
The Railroad Park and Birmingham Botanical Gardens are both scenic spots, whereas the Birmingham Museum of Art is an example of a view where bonafide art is appreciated. Many famous musicians herald from the area and return to play concerts at one of the many local music venues. The skyline is impressive, and the city is known as one of the best places to start a business or career.
