United KingdomThe University of Leeds started out as the Yorkshire College of Science in 1874 before becoming part of Victoria University in 1887. In 1904 a royal charter was given by King Edward VII to create it as a university in its own right. Today it has over 39,000 students including more than 13,400 international students from 137 countries.
It is part of the Russell Group of universities and has been awarded the Queen’s Anniversary prize in 2009, 2011 and 2021. The university is ranked in the top 100 global universities by the QS World University Rankings 2023. It’s also in the top 20 in the UK by the Complete University Guide, The Guardian and The Times/Sunday Times lists.

Facilities
The University of Leeds has committed more than £520m to an ongoing transformation of its campus. It’s already opened The Edge, a state-of-the-art fitness, sport and wellbeing facility with one of the largest fitness suites of any UK university and an 8-lane swimming pool.
Location
The University of Leeds is just 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre, which has plenty of shops, cafes, restaurants and a vibrant nightlife. As a base to explore the wider UK, Leeds is well connected across the country through rail links as well as being close to several international airports.
Students Union
The university’s students union was the first in the UK to be awarded Excellent status by the National Union of Students (NUS) as part of its Quality Students' Unions accreditation scheme. It also received two gold standard awards for the Students’ Union Evaluation Initiative.
