Highlights
The University of West Alabama (UWA) is a higher-education provider in Livingston, Alabama. It provides undergraduate and postgraduate courses in over 90 fields of study. Some popular courses include Liberal Arts, Natural Sciences and Mathematics, Nursing, Technology, Business, and Education.
UWA opened in 1839 and has a long-standing reputation for providing educational opportunities to residents. But the provider has expanded to offer courses for over 4,000 students today.
UWA has various on-campus housing options available for students. First-year students are housed in Gilbert Hall in shared rooms with two people. Each room has a private bathroom and students have access to WIFI, laundry facilities, cable television and group study rooms. Meal plans are also available if students require catered options.
Beyond the first year, students can live off-campus in shared or private apartments or houses. The university has a list of vetted and safe accommodations nearby the UWA main campus, which students can apply for after their first year.
A fitness centre is also available to use. Here students can take part in fitness classes and use gym equipment.
The University of West Alabama has various top-quality resources for academic and leisure purposes. Firstly, the Julia Tutwiler Library is open seven days a week each semester and provides many resources. Books, ebooks, local archives, computers, printing services and study areas are all available.
Outside of studying, the university has several cafes and restaurants where students can meet and socialise. Young Hall Caf, Grille Works and a Subway are on-campus.
With a 13:1 student-to-teacher ratio, UWA has a close-knit community. Furthermore, the community feel at the university helps teachers to empower students to share ideas and develop academically and socially. Students are respected on campus. In addition, the university encourages students to develop in extracurricular areas. As a result, students can find many activities, clubs and organisations to join outside of class. These include outdoor activities, personalised fitness training, athletics, intramural sports, and religious and cultural clubs.
Campuses
UWA's campus is situated on a beautiful 600-acre campus in Livingston, Alabama. Outside of the university, students are welcomed into the Livingston community.
