BA (Hons) German Studies and Modern Languages (Including Foundation Year)
Open to Home and EU students this course is suitable for you if your academic qualifications do not yet meet our entrance requirements for the three-year version of this course and you want a programme that increases your subject knowledge as well as improves your academic skills. This course includes a foundation year (Year Zero), followed by a further four years of undergraduate study. Studying languages opens doors to new horizons. You study two or three languages with two modules in German taken each year, which must be studied to Mastery level. Our courses are unique because they have a triple focus on developing language proficiency, cultural awareness and professional skills – not only translation/interpreting skills, but also web and publishing skills, and film production and video-editing skills such as subtitling and voiceover. Our focus on skills helps you acquire a wide range of employability skills which enhance your career prospects. You spend your third year abroad experiencing, engaging with and integrating into another culture, either by a period of study at a partner university or by working as a language assistant.
