IELTS Speaking Part 2: Describe an area in your home where you feel relaxed

Sample answer 1: Garden

One area in my home where I feel completely relaxed is my garden. It's a small but lovely space, filled with a variety of plants and flowers. I have a few roses, some lavender, and even a small herb patch. There’s also a wooden bench under a shady tree, which is my favourite spot to sit.

I feel relaxed in the garden for several reasons. Firstly, being surrounded by nature has a calming effect on me. The vibrant colours of the flowers, the gentle rustling of the leaves in the breeze, and the sweet scent of blooming plants create a peaceful atmosphere. It's a perfect escape from the busyness of daily life.

To enhance my relaxation, I often spend time in the garden by engaging in activities that help me unwind. I like to sit on the bench with a good book, enjoying the fresh air while I read. Sometimes, I just close my eyes and listen to the birds chirping and the sound of wind blowing through the trees. This quiet time allows me to clear my mind and feel more grounded.

Additionally, I love to do some light gardening. Planting seeds, watering the plants, or simply pulling out weeds can be very therapeutic. The physical activity combined with being outdoors helps me relieve stress and boosts my mood.

In summary, my garden is a special place for me. It provides a serene environment where I can relax, connect with nature, and recharge my mind. Whether I’m reading, enjoying the sounds around me, or tending to my plants, I always feel a sense of peace when I’m there.

Sample answer 2: Bathroom

One area in my home where I feel most relaxed is my bathroom. It's a small but cosy space, decorated in soft, calming colours. I’ve added a few plants and scented candles, which create a peaceful atmosphere. The lighting is soft, and I often keep it dimmed to enhance the relaxing vibe.

I feel relaxed in my bathroom for several reasons. Firstly, it provides a sense of privacy and quiet away from the noise of daily life. It’s my little sanctuary where I can escape for a while. Secondly, the warmth of the water during a bath is incredibly soothing, both physically and mentally. It helps me to unwind after a long day.

To help me relax, I usually take a long, warm bath. I like to fill the tub with bubbles or bath oils that have a nice scent. Sometimes, I play soft music or listen to a podcast while soaking in the water. I also enjoy reading a book or simply closing my eyes and focusing on my breathing. This helps clear my mind and brings me a sense of calm.

In conclusion, my bathroom is my go-to place for relaxation. The combination of the serene environment, warm water, and my little rituals makes it a perfect escape where I can recharge and find peace.

Sample answer 3: Bedroom

One place in my home where I feel very relaxed is my bedroom. It’s a quiet and peaceful space that I consider my personal sanctuary. The room is simple but cosy, with soft bedding, a tidy layout, and light colours like white and beige on the walls and furniture. These light shades make the room feel airy and calm, which helps me unwind after a long day.

What makes me feel most relaxed in my bedroom is the cosy bed. I love to lie down, watch TV, or enjoy my favourite shows and movies from the comfort of my bed. The room doesn’t have a lot of decorations, and I prefer it that way because a clean, clutter-free space helps me relax better. 

When I spend time here, whether I’m resting, watching something, or even just lying down quietly, I always feel my stress melt away. The peaceful atmosphere and comfort of the room help me recharge, and I always wake up feeling refreshed. It’s the perfect place to relax and escape from the outside world.
